Even that leverage would struggle to make 12kts (planing) with true wind fwd of Mid ships.

From the Blaze website...Fortunately for us the Blaze can also plane upwind as well in some conditions (some modern ones and a few older ones will) This is a function of its excellent power to weight and leverage provided by the wings.

It doesn't surprise me at all to hear the A5 is faster than a Laser, but that probably wouldn't be with maxibuddah in it, in fact I'd like to race Max in an A5 with me in a Laser, in about 8 knots, that would suit me just fine.

Claims like that can always be verified, it's like PY's, depends who's in the boat, but the key fact it has the potential to be faster and it's modern and you can get the tiiller on and off without a hassle, you get it on the trailer without a hernia, it doesn't soak you on chilly days and last but not least IT"S GOT A CUP HOLDER, what's not to like? All this partisan bullsh*t, both classes are doing well, cut the crap, it's a really good thing happening, I want both of them.

But I still want more besides....

Cos I'm a consumer and I can.

I'm with Peaky on this - and even if it only proves to be "in the same ball park" as the full rigged Laser, not actually quicker (the extra sail area will surely win out) it is still a real step up from the Topper/Pico speed boats which are currently on offer to small people. If the 7 proves to be in the 1040/30 speed range, that is also a big jump from the current crop of boats in the 1150 type speed catagory, without extra grunt being needed.

As for car ads - they might not lie, but they certainly make aspirational claims that are simply not true for most people. Basicially, they are often saying "this car will make you more attractive/cool". No, it won't.

...as pleasantly surprised that the Icon is in fact as quick as maybe even quicker than a Merlin?

The blaze is over a metre wider than the aero.
A Smith and Wesson generally beats two aces.
Even that leverage would struggle to make 12kts (planing) with true wind fwd of
Mid ships.
As mentioned elsewhere, I overtook a 9 on a close reach in a f4 and I was definitely not planing.

Oh for goodness sake. Read my lips. I like the Aero. I nearly bought one. Maybe one day I will. I am pleased Chelmarsh have a fleet. I am pleasantly surprised the 5 is faster than a Laser. I would not have expected that. I believe that is an RS release, not a Chelmarsh SC one, and RS must stand by the claims it makes. I do not doubt RS honestly believe the 5 is faster than a Laser. Which is astonishing performance for a boat aimed at, what, 12 year olds. I have my doubts that it actually is quite that fast, but will be very happy to be proven wrong!

Having seen both the Aero and the Zero in action now, I would say that they both look good boats, and both perform well on the water. People who have actually sailed bothconfirm this, most preferring the look of the Zero whereas opinion was that the Aero had the edge performance-wise. Take a look at the results for the Aero here for 26/10 race http://results.burghfieldsailing.org/show.php?page=2014_sun_fast_au_pm.htm . The sailor's first race in his new 7-rig, 2nd time out. A decent breeze against some sailors some of you might be familiar with. Ignore the Zero result ... he was just demoing really. I'd say given some of the negativity on here, that's a pretty impressive result. And re the planing upwind doubts...well, I couldn't possibly say, but nobody seems to doubt the Blaze's ability to plane upwind so why the barbed comments here about the Aero? It's unusual lightness suggests to me that it may well have the potential to do so. So unless people here have sailed the thing and can prove otherwise, then it is pure, uninformed mischief making. Both boats appear to be excellent products. Give your keyboards a rest and let them carve their own grooves...time will tell.

Yes, car manufacturers work with and comply with the same advertising standards as any other industry.

They are some of the largest companies in the world and any untuth is jumped upon quicker than a aero planes upwind.

Given what I do for a living I can assure you that car manufacturers advertisement or PR are far removed from what we see in the dinghy world, due to both industry and public scutiny.
