Got carved up in broad daylight last week, on a blind corner. Only braking so hard I almost stopped saved me. Driver disappeared before I could get his number plate. Think he'd failed to take account of me not trundling along (though I'm hardly some sort of speed merchant)

I'm certainly not a great cyclist like you guys but I enjoy a ride at the weekend. A few weeks ago, a friend of mine and I were riding on bridleways in West Sussex. I was following him at one point and shouted at him "Keep going!" - "I can't!" came the answer... and he stepped off his bike.

I laughed and stepped off my bike too. Then took a photo:

Apologies for the dodgy picture quality. I took it with my phone.

Mmmmmm, nice. Reminds me of some of my recent Wednesday night rides, just in daylight. Not a fun place to be when you are trying to unclip from your pedals and spot a good place to put your foot down.

Grumph, yes it did feel good. Not often you get to the top of a hill in Wales to be dazzled by sunlight glaring of crisp white powder! If it hadn't been so time consuming riding up the hill I would have done another lap to sample the DH run.... next time!

Hmmm, thats pretty nice.

I nearly bought a Giant Trance X frame and shock on ebay yesterday but got distracted at the vital minute. Doh. Can you negotiate a tidy discount on those Transition bikes Grumph?!

If you are looking to spend only £200, as Grumph says eBay is the only answer really. You should be able to pick up a relatively tidy bike for that. What size are you? I am sure we could throw out a few ideas for you. If you don't know what frame size you require, how tall are you as a starting point?

Things to look for are a good frame and a decent set of suspension forks. A cheap set of forks can ruin a bike. Better to have no forks than bad heavy forks!
