Don't apologies the Solution's a pretty good boat. But if by that you mean the 3.7 looks old, well it would it's a 40 year old design and really it's the Solution that 'looks' old, it was designed in 2006. My motivation for getting a 3.7 was simple, my son ( crew ) is enjoying girls more than boats ( he'll learn ), I didn't want to go scratch crew hunting. My back doesn't like hiking ( fused bits in it ). I like the club I'm at but all the single-handed trapeze boats currently on the 'market' ( in my view ) wouldn't work on a shifty inland lake and have design failings. And there is nothing else that is a real lightweights trapeze boat. So far I'm more than happy with my choice. Oh Jim, me and Ben were talking to Andrew at Redeye quite a bit back then as he sponsored us with his sails in the UK Cherub. I wouldn't be surprised if he'd used the 3.7 as inspiration he certainly used other peoples sail shapes as 'inspiration' for our suit!

I didn't mean it looks old Jack, far form it - I think for a design of 40 years old it looks great, I just though that apart from the foredeck that he solution looked very similarly proportioned.
I understand completely why your bought a 3.7....an provided its not a complete handicap bandict ( which i doubt at our home club) then of course i look forward to racing you soon.

so if the Farr and Solution are similar in looks what about adding a trap to a Solution?
Farr 3.7m with 8.8 sq m versus Solution 3.92m with 8.5 sq m. This should give comparible weight carrying capabilities.
Also the possibility of finding a way to up the sail area of the Solution. This might just work as a trapeze single hander for lightweights.

Sorry, mines a woody. Probably one of the quicker boats if off-wind performance is anything to go by. (My finishes, not so much...) It is the first Paine built boat, (home-build) and its last two owners were both Team NZ. |

Are you going to be down for a shake down sail on Sunday Jack? I'm tempted looking at the forecast and they have been busy clearing all the cut weed out.

I haven't been out in this recent wind as I don't want to risk it before the test sail. Not that I don't have faith in the boat. More my lack of skill
. So I don't think so. Plus I may be dead after sailing my Landyacht on the Saturday. With the predicted wind I'm going to be doing around 50mph!

Hoping to visit the inlaws over the weekend of the 18th. If you're likely to be at the club it would be great to see the 3.7 in action......
all the best for the test |

Very impressive taster photo on the Y&Y test by Tom Gruitt. I don't think he has released it publicly yet so I can't link to it for you.
