[QUOTE=G.R.F.]If ever there were a contraption that makes a bit of sense if you insist on
hiking, it has to be that sliding traveller seat thing, but I guess it must be a
bit last century.

QUOTE]

A bit 19th century, really. The sailing canoes started using them in the 1880's. Killed canoe sailing as a mass participation sport, too, when things got extreme...sound familiar?

Hate to break it to you, but racks aren't that cheap.

I made a set for Anders Peterson to try on his IC because he thiought it might be a good idea, They cost as much as a seat.

Done a number of other rack sets and they always cost more, take longer to build and are heavier than you initially might think. They are hard to do right.

And, if you could design a set of racks that didn't hang out to leeward, wouldn't you want them?

Answer is the seat, which is a pretty cool thing, but for some reason people can't get their heads around it.

found about this tread and because it deals with my new one, thought
should give you some insight on how and why......sailing, i could say,
made my life worth living, started sailing at 18 lasers , jumped at 20 in a
finn following the usual olympic dream, but was a fairly hopless sailor to
start with ,so it took me until 2000 to achive my dream....in 2000 with my
mate tim tavinor and joachim harprecht we developed the musto
skiff...only to find out that i could not sail it ,nor could also tim in reality,
too difficult for us..than a fairly undefounded ac campaign, with percy
and the lads ,no fun and stress, with the aftertaste of fairly meaningless
legal fightings ...... so after that came back and wanted something top
quality fun, easy to sail and that would give me back the joy sailing ,
planing on a sailable one..well , after all that, this summer sailing the
first d-one, that is going to be the name of our new singlehander, was so
much fun that got me back sailing a dinghy for hours on my own..despite
my huge size...soon you will see what we made a you will have the
chance to sail it and see if you like it, who is going to join us sailing will
have a format that will keep judges away from the race area and good
parties and will not need to be superman ....     all the best luca JavaScript:AddSmileyIcon(' ') devoti

This was tried in the mid 90's on the isle of wight. I crewed it regularly for a while. It didn't work that well, I think it was to do with the for and aft posistion of the c/b but it was a longish time ago. In the end we went back to using a cut down fireball kite.

Mark - you still got Lark 2170?

I had it new in about '86 - "french grey" deck colour. No too popular! Still got a photo somewhere of pouring champagne over it when we launched it at Weir Wood SC....cannot remeber who we sold it to or when, but we had it 2-3 years.

The calibre of people posting on Y&Y is moving up - First  Mr RS and now Mr Devoti! I look forward to seeing pictures of the new boat. Though if it is the right size for Luca Devoti, it might be a bit big for me...

Sounds interesting. Are you able to let us have any preview pictures yet? If not how about an idea when it will be released.
