So in two days I've gone from 28000th to 86000th!!!

At least this evenings wind change didnt melt the servers but heading SSE upwind at 10kts still way north of the Canaries is not a good place to be. If all goes well though I should get past the canaries in reasonable breeze and then hook into a building tailwind.

Yep. Madeira is in my way as well. I'll sit in as a witness on your hearing.

So the question is....should we all change course before the 7pm wind change. I think I will be.

So you tacked off rb.  I have been watching this all day (one advantage of being self employed) wondering whether to tack on the wind change, if so how far to run with it, or to carry on south past Madeira.  As it was I pinched up a bit in the hour before the wind change and now I think I have a good line through the gap.  We'll find out soon enough who called it right!

Mind you, just as well the servers didn't crash like yesterday, I would have ended up spending the night on the beach!

(I should also admit to sitting watching the clock tick down to seven...)

One of my issues may be I am using a forecast off a different site - I am clicking on the bars which give the forecasts every 12 hours but nothing happens (if I click on the wind just above it makes a wind noise but nothing else) - am I looking in the wrong place??

Thnx

Andy, if you zoom in on your boat until you can see the wind arrow in each grid, then click on the 12hr button. The wind arrow in the grid will update and show you the forecast for the 12hrs from 7 tomorrow morning.

If you click 24hr button, then you will see the wind arrow in the grid for the wind for 12hrs from 7 tomorrow evening.

During each 12hr period the winds will not change but as you move from one grid to the next you will be effected by the particular breeze for the particular grid.

Ok many thanks, got the wind but not seeing any grids? I hadn't been zooming in far enough.

Interestingly the forecast is a bit different to the website I was using which was suggesting much more of a WNW where I am for the next 24 hours.

Dougal, I thought that was what you were doing. I had to decided to pass to the East, but when I saw you could make the gap I decided to follow you for the slightly stronger breeze with a couple of degrees better angle on the wind. Now set for the night and hope that I don't get caught the last time I passed close to land.

Should have done that decision much earlier as it cost me a few k places to tack into your lane.

Gutted to learn Sam Davies has been dismasted, seems she is OK so all the best to her.  It's a tough, tough race even with 2012 technology at your disposal

+15k places overnight.  Not bad.  5k more and I'm back to where I was before the servers crashed!

Bad news for Sam D, it must be gutting to go out so early in the race after the years of preparation.

Very sad for Sam. I was really hoping that she was going to do well by keeping the boat together whilst others around suffered failures.

Dougal, you have definitely done well during the night. I'm still 20k places behind where I was at/before the crash. Hoping to get west to hook into some downwind sailing early and try and pull back some miles.
