"Glad you like it Lionel, I reckon there'll be a Tasaresque Aero 2 along soon!"

Yes, I heard that they were developing one.  Looking forward to seeing if it is true and if so what it looks like

as also the revamped Icon.

Far be it from me to defend the Laser, I might own one again, but I'm no fan of the hardware... the reason it's even being discussed here is the very reason why neither the Aero or Zero will make a significant impact on it in the next few years at least.

Update time - how many real local fleets are there of Aeros- in other words racing independently, or in significant enough number that the spreadsheet doesn't really feature in their group  mindset?

Lymington?
Gurnard?

The rumour I heard was that Bowmoor was a bit flash in the pan and they're not out much, it's a bit of Supernova stronghold.

Any others?  Chelmarsh must be doing OK by now?

Sounds a bit like number plates. Never got the reason for personal plates, either.

Vanity, pure vanity.

Not vanity in each case for personal sail numbers - in the Finn for example you may well have more than one hull and can switch rigs from one to another without the need to fiddle with sail numbers

I was really just referring to the car plates.

I guess aesthetics comes into it for sail numbers - you do tend to see them a lot while sailing.

More common is (or used to be, anyway) to simply see the number of the boat a sail was bought second hand from, maybe with a number peeled off if the original owner is out sailing too.

Spectacular failure on an Aero at my club today. At first glance it looks as if the mast pot let go at the bottom. The end of the mast crunched the topside on one side significantly so its a very sick boat. I imagine RS will want to conduct a very detailed post mortem to see what went wrong. It was windy and very gusty but also it was a very early boat, so very much doubt it represents a design fault.
