Interesting one of the young Topper/Radial sailors had a choice of events to go to this weekend: Island Barn (Topper) which had no wind and Pevensey Bay (Radial) where people were retiring as it was too windy!

I was in the no wind brigade and so spent today helping out the other half as an athletics official.  This meant I had the dubious pleasure of running towards potentially lethal missiles.....ie the shot and the discus.

It's always interesting to observe the differences between grass roots sailing and grass roots athletics.
the same, but different...

Managed to borrow myself a Phantom yesterday as there was very little wind and showed the fleet a clean pair of heels... If only I had the money (and very flat cut sail).

Was good for a laugh, how do you Phantom boys manage without breaking your necks? I tripped over the control lines and toe strap shock cord so many times!

Sat: Arrived at Queen Mary SC to a flat calm mirror of water and a brilliant clear sky and sunshine!, rigged up boats in no wind waited 10mins or so and my crew and the b14 crew with us went for a early lunch. After the early lunch both boats decided to launch just so we could go for a float, after not bothering to put my harness on while ashore, putting it in the boat, i had to put it on while the boat was moving, now that was interesting. i was having to wire in what looked like no wind as the afternoon continued the wind picked up to a nice breeze, had quite a few nice downwind runs attempting not to scare my crew too much. Just before coming off the water after a nice day on the water the wind was enough to have got twinning downwind.

Sun:Was supposed to be on the safety boat but wasn't needed in the end, considered going for a quick sail but there was hardly any wind. Resulting in going to the local steam fair/classic car show

Saturday was on our RIB at Marconi for the Mirror Squaddie selection weekend. Sat moored to a bouy most of the day in lovely sunshine.

Sunday I took the double stacker with two Lasers to Wraysbury for teh TVGP. Turned up to no wind, after some encouragement from the locals that the wind would fill rigged still to no wind. Then after 3 hours of waiting it filled in, and then we went for a drifting/sailing session.

Not the best in light winds, but hey, I want loads for next week, not sure if I'll get it!

Basically the same as Ratface ... But helming the B14 he mentioned.

It was strange having both of us sat on the wing with the boat cruising along in mirror flat water.

Clasic car show + Carters steam fair were in the area, so we decided to kill an hour going around there, and then home.

Same again next weekend I believe!

On the Medway the wind filled in nicely halfway through the morning race.  We and quite a few others, had decided to stay ashore.  We then gave chase but they wouldn't let us sign on so it didn't count.

Even more wind in the afternoon but the boat didn't feel right.  We did all right in the results but got absolutely thrashed by our rivals in the 59er.  We left the 400 out of sight so we weren't going badly but something was wrong.  I noticed on the long reach back up river that there was some vibration from the rudder and thought nothing of it.  Today it suddenly dawned on me that the packing was probably hanging out of the daggerboard case.  I'll check it when I'm there next week but I now realise I've been there before and it felt exactly the same.
