The sort of morons who do that, leave fish hooks and othe detritus on the beach, shout and cast at us whilst we're sailing, try to monopolise water that we use, even recently forcing our lake to pull up all their fixed buoys because one of their victims drowned itself after breaking away from their lure and becoming tangled around the buoy allegedly.
I love eating all kinds of fish and do regularly eat sushi and have fished myself, it's not the activity,it's the perpetrators - like cat sailors, a slightly sub species.

Blimey, he's right again (we get these dull, wife-refugees on the Medway too); I'm not sure my equilibrium will take too much more of the new Grumph.

Of course I agree with most of you about fishermen, particularly on lakes. What i cannot understand is the vast quantity of equipment they bring just to sit there and catch the odd sardine. Also why do they wear all that cammo gear, are fish clever enough to be fooled into thinking that the fat bloke on a folding stool drinking a can of Carlsborg (not cammo) is a tree?
I cannot quite sort out Mr Fullers attitude towards fishermen though. That bearded cove holding the cardboard looking salmon, was it Jack Sparrow? Presumably, if it is not in fact cardboard, he intends to share it's consumption with his loved ones. He has experienced the thrill of catching the leviathan and will then eat it, perhaps even show it respect. Is this not better than the callous trawlerman who scrapes unsuspecting flatties from the fraglie sea bed leaving orphaned children and distraught wives that they may be served in batter by a Chinaman in an Oldham chip shop? Presumably Mr Sparrow is a wealthy man who can afford to catch and eat the product of a Scottish river....gillies and all that. Said gillie would clear away his line and hooks, remove his waders and serve him an aged malt. That is a far cry from the lakeside oik with his lager and Pringles. Oddly enough I have just eaten re-constituted fish and cold chips in IKEA but then I am a member of the undeserving poor. |
