Crewed for a friend in his Flying Fifteen

17kts gusting 25 - absolutely perfect

Won the first race by about 6 minutes over the hour and were around 2 minutes ahead in the second when we snapped a twinning line fitting and sheared the rudder keyway after getting hit by a huge gust.

Helm is smiling though as he is off to the europeans at the end of next week and has a boat that is flying

When you find a big kettle of crazy it's probably best not to stir it - Pointy Haired Boss

I've had a mental weekend windsurfing. I am now a lot more competent at water starting than before but a monkey could have been more competent than me yesterday. i'm coming to the conclusion i need a smaller board and sail if it stays so windy.
600 732, will call it Sticks and Stones when i get round to it.

Same, I ditched the boat and went windsurfing all week. Down on the coast it was blowing a constant 18knts and huge waves (wind against tide) and we were all overpowered on 4.0m sails and 75L boards!!

You better get some small kit soon Mike! All the forcasts are calling for a very windy week !

i have aquired a 4.7 sail on permanent loan from a freind now, its a seriously old school sail, must be at least 15 years old but its still got life left in it. i was out on it yesterday but with my 115 litre board and 25 knots constant in the solent chop the board was all over the place even with me locked very securly into both footloops and clinging on for dear life. somehow i only managed to spin out once, i think the rest of the times i was about to spin out i just catapaulted or found another new and interesting way to fall off. its all good fun

On Friday, I bought myself a new toy - a sit-on-top sea kayak, a 9ft long purple and white plastic thing that can be used when there's no wind, or too much. I got both extremes this weekend.

When I tried it out for the first time on Friday night, there wasn't a breath of wind, the sea was mirror calm and paddling was a doddle. Add a warm sunny evening after a drizzly day, a good pint of beer and a lovely dinner and it's a perfect recipe.

On Sunday, things got spiced up a bit with a steady force 6 gusting 8, waves and tide taking me to interesting but not-quite-planned places. Powering through the surf, I was just about to take a breather when another wave comes crashing towards me, and another, and another... Tiring to get out but so much fun to come back to the beach, catching a wave and surfing it, half of the boat out of the water, seeing the beach come very close very fast! I'm glad it's made out of plastic

Can't wait to take it out again. Perhaps next time, I'll feel a bit more in control.

Seriously windy is Hastings! 2m meter swell so launching was a b**tard but we got out there in the end. Mental sailing. We got the kite up and the kite run was ballisticly fast but it felt a little sluggish. On our 3rd capsize we had real trouble righting it and when we eventually did the transom was under water!  We were sinking so back to shore we went. I had to undo the inspection hatch to drain it and liters of water came pouring out. It was a great couple of hours though.

It was indeed. Stanley is safe in the boat park, with the mast nice and straight to the spreaders.

I was in the 3000 and yes, FS is in the boat park with the mast strait to the spreaders.

If you're wondering, Al and I had a chat on Sunday while I played around with my new control systems (which I'm very pleased with) hense the strait mast comment.
