You catch on quick, for a dinosaur!

I believe the FD's were the only class to go racing on the windy day at Cadiz. Does the Youtube video include the shore-based footage, which gives a better clue as to just how windy it was? The thing that gets me every time I see that video is the acceleration out of tacks and at the bear-away. Fantastic stuff!

No FD? No Comment!

I think the Finns were out too.... Although a quick look in Finnatics reveals they did lose one day of racing.

Wow i must admit reading all this banter is great fun but its getting a bit boring i didnt notice any FDs at the bloody mary nor did i see any mentioned at the tiger trophy where these events too small and insignificant for he class to make an appearance.

Big deal you can Sail A FD when its blowing 28 knots but most OODs will cancel racing froma safety point of view to cover there backs in times of litigation and so on, i know this beacuse the fireballs in 2006 had a windy nats and we didnt race one day as it was blowing 35 knots now the boat can handle it i know this but the OOD didnt want to run the risk of any incidents sensible guy.

so what u have is a great boat for going out for a blast in in big winds as racing will probbaly be cancelled so your boat is almost the same as a cherub as there great for blasting when the breeze is up

I think its a while since any of the top Cherubs did the handicap events, don't know why. But that's one of the reasons why the "Graham Vials Handicap System" Andy Rice was banging on about in the mag last week has no chance of producing anything useful. There just wouldn't be the data. Some years some classes put up strong entries, other years other classes. I don't think I've ever seen a world class Laser sailor enter one and so on...

No, actually, what I have is a great boat. Perhaps you Cherub boys should take yourselves a tiny bit less seriously? We're trying to have some fun here. As Chas said, this is called banter. As for where the FD does or doesn't turn up, we have a thing called freedom of choice in the FD class, so while I know exactly why I wasn't at the BM or the TT, (a) I feel no need to share those reasons, and (b) I can't speak for anyone else in the class as they all have minds of their own

Plough your own furrow by all means, have fun, sail whatever you like, but for God's sake get over yourselves.

Us boring you.....wow!

Most performance designs can blast downwind at approaching 20knots. Some can achieve this in waves on the sea.  Of course, some designs can then turn around and enjoy sailing back upwind again.  The FD happens to be one of those.

If you can't see why blasting upwind in those conditions is exhilarating, then you are the one missing out.  I am sure that the FD folk will be happy to book you in for a ride.

Life is too short.

Absolutely!! Despite the slightly over-defensive nature of the response to our banter, I'd be delighted to show you why I love my FD so much. PM me and I'll sort it. That's an open invitation, by the way. If any of you fancy a trip round the harbour we can oblige.

Meanwhile, back to the cherub - sorry Dinghy Show - thread

Plus, many of the races are pursuits- to get any sort of accurate data you'd need to know where every boat was on the water at the exact moment of the finish, surely?
