8 stone brings up an interesting use for the 59er- as a 9er trainer for youth, sailing 3 up with the trap on.

Ie the boat carries so much weight and still sails really fast, such that the (fat old) instructor can be in the boat with a 29er team. The late, great Frank Bethwaite went out 3 up a few times (without trapeze).

Great boat to sail, much simpler than the B14 to get to grips with:  it will find it's place at some point with or without trap, but maybe not in the UK where the Rs400 was seen as high performance by many!
Crewing on a Melges 24, against my better judgement...

59er is a great boat. Shame they didn't catch on. Much more rewarding than a 400

Granted its not idea.... I wonder if a 29er kite would fit?

But think of that mast-head kite, Ian.  It'll be "Hoo Island here we come!" on the reach along Gillingham.

Yes I reckon it will be fine. Sure we will be to light but then that's a problem we often have. It hasn't got that much more sail than a 29er, and its a pretty flat cut from what i recall, O and I think it has more beam so all in all we'd cope ok i think.

May be, I guess as Jim says it depends on how much you want to sell it as although they dont come up very often I suspect there aren't that many people looking to buy them... other wise they might have sold more of them.

I've sailed them before, and to be honest its the stability thats part of the attraction.... but then i guess it depends on what your comparing it to.

The 59er seems to hold its price as only about one a year comes up for sale .
Forget the "old man's boat" image - you need to be pretty agile for this tippy craft!
