Matt, having cut his fingers on the (new) slot gasket, was retired to the beach by the rescue boat on the ‘blood rule’ with his boat sailed in by a rescue boat volunteer.
From the Lightning Open report - I hope that this is in jest. If not a ridiculous piece of Health and Safety gone mad. Bit of claret (or a lot) in your own boat: your own decision to continue. Absolutely no right of the Race Management to interfere since safety is not affected. Anyone disagree? I'd be interested to hear more form the Lightnings - I assume there was consent....a rescue crew would have to prise me out of the boat for an injury if I wanted to sail on.

I admit to having bled all over my boat (and others!) on occasion. But was the Lightning incident just a puffy finger with a bit of a cut.....or was it a big open slash that meant he couldnt grip very well? Remember the sea and wind state were not calm that day.

That's why I'd like to know.....but the view I take is that the rescue boat may take a decision that a competitor is too tired, light etc to right a boat...
But not that they must retire through injury (unless it's Ian Percy back injury spasming in the bottom of the boat stuff - which refers you back to my first point above).

no don't disagree at all.... besides when I snagged my finger in an Oppy when I was kid I was told to stop crying and that a bit of blood in the boat will make a man of me...

I ignored him, retired and found a nice cheese toasty to warm me up.
