hi everyone, I am selling my current boat to upgrade to a fast, agile single handed dinghy. I have look around and i dont really want a laser but i really like the look of the rs 300. I looked a the vario but i was told i was to light. however they told me to look into the rs 300. ive been researching for a couple of weeks now and it looks like the choice for me. However im on 63.5kg! but i am only in my late 15's so im still growing. I am extremely keen to get this boat but want everyones views on how i will cope. ( i am a competent sailer, sailed for herts and my previous boat was an rs feva) |

Bit light but you might be alright in the A rig boat i see there is one for sale with an A rig on apollo duck. As for the vareo i would say you need to be about 80 kilos upwards to be any good in the windy stuff |

You are quite light. But then again I am only 10.5 stone so 67kg? I sail with the bigger rig still. I believe Ian Smith (posts on here) is lighter than me and he is much quicker in breeze. What kind of boats have you sailed in the past? With a 300 you can get away with being light if your a bit quicker and have good technique. Where are you based, I'm sure you would be able to test sail someones near you. Another tip if your serious about the 300, join the yahoo forum, boats often come up on there first and you can ask questions etc. Everyones really friendly. Tom |

You will get wet in the 300 it does take a while till you work it out i think it took me three months before i could sail it in any weather without falling in

does the 100 have a lower weight range?
Just so you know i'm 62kg and got a blaze (more forgiving 300 typeish boat) and was not competative over F4 and getting overpowered, have a look at the blaze you may get away with it, if you are still on a growth spirt then it might be worth a shot on the 300 but I'd definatley get a test sail, preferably in a good breeze! |

Sorry Zailor, but are you saying the Blaze or 300 was not competative over a F4? Not sailed a blaze but I would have thought the 300 would depower more easily with an unstayed bendy carbon mast. If you want a challenging boat which will improve your sailing, the 300 is a good call but as rockhopper says, you will need to spend some time getting used to it. One thing a 300 will guarentee (sp?) you is a big grin every time you sail. |

Also with the 300 you can buy it for a good price and sell it again a few years later for the same they just seem to hold there value very well.

Get yourself a 300 with an A-rig, you will not look back!
Its an awesome boat. Just make sure you are willing to stick at it and practice! To many people bottle it and give up two months in!! |
