Another interesting boat..how does it draw?
Is this a K6 for those with no friends? It could do with a kite IMHO. Edited by timeintheboat |

Like some other things - sailing is more enjoyable when you do it with someone else

I thought there must be something on this somewhere but I did a forum search on it before posting (in the wrong place!) and found zilch!

I saw this at Southampton, or the proto, apparently they cut it out of a
piece of foam then glassed it windsurf board style. I did ask the enthusiastic young guy, "Er why would you bother and surely you have something better to do with your life.." I'd love to find out who can Cad profile a chunk of foam that big. And make something decent out of it. A bit bizarre really I'd gone over to the stand to see the new single handed V3000 and all they had was that thing, I assumed it was some sort of sailability device, a far more worthy cause, but no it's what it is, a mobility scooter on water, for old clincally obese people. Targeted at the Phantom fleet I guess. Edited by G.R.F. |

There are plenty of places with 5 axis CNC capability for stuff that size and even much bigger. Pretty much all production yacht tooling is done that way nowadays.
Then you just have to find somebody to do the design in 3D CAD. Its cheaper to cut out of foam, but you just have to be aware that you need to glass over it sooner rather than later to keep the whole lot stable and as designed. Dan |

My last single hander was a Musto skiff so when i had a
chance to sail the prototype I was not really expecting much but I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. Its got a nice feel to the helm, slides along nicely and it was good to sail a boat were a bit of heal is not a bad thing. And it felt this good with a cobbled together rig and keel. I'm actually looking forward to having another go as the details get developed. Mind you the Musto has gone and Hannah and I have sold the 29er and now sail a Merlin... so perhaps I'm closer to my pipe and slippers than I would like to admit. Ian |

In some ways I think the concept has real merit. You could look at it either as a singlehanded Flying 15, or a winter play thing for yotties, or even as an alternative to a Solo. You'd want a well balanced trolley and a helping hand up the slipway mind you! |
