hi,

i'm going to look at a rs700 tomorrow. It's not an old boat however is fairly cheap. Is there anything major that i should look out for structuraly? I know about the sails and flaky paint on the racks.

Thanks

Dave

I would take the bung out and check for water.

If you know how the pump system on the kite works, make sure thats smooth, the carbon mast/boom/pole is ok and normal stuff really.

I got mine after sailing a Laser for 6 years and enjoy sailing it! Check out the yahoo group and class site for old copies of the news letters

check the mast step area, they have a tendancy of cracking, this will lead to a bill of about £250 for the repair.

yes i did buy it. my only concern is the trailing edge of the daggerboard. Not sure how to repair effectively, any ideas? It has lots of chips in it which cant be good for the case.

Any other tips would be nice.

Thanks Dave

little chips use gelcoat from the builder so the colour matches, big bits missing you will need to rebuild up with glass and epoxi possiblly with wire for extra stregth if its the tip then gelcoat to look as good as new.

if its not bad I would go sailing insted and save that job for a sunny day with no wind. hopefully with someone around to stop you making a sticky mess.

Whats the sail number?

I have 720 and have enjoyed the few times I have been out in it, realy big learning curve but worth it for the grin factor!

sail number is 883

They are only little chips so intend to epoxy one night this week. First sail will be on monday I think. How important is it to upgrade the downhaul to 8:1?

sorry about all the questions

The chips in the daggerboard can be fixed with gelcoat or epoxy with plenty of colloidal silica. Sometimes its easier to cut a slightly larger area away around the damage as this will give more contact area.

Regarding the cunningham, 8:1 is the norm, but you should be ok with what you have, you'll just have to pull harder.

Good to hear you bought the boat.

Where do you sail?
