Hi,

My brother and I are thinking about getting a dead cheap fireball to do some of the summer events like Aldeburgh week etc.

All up we weigh around 125-130kg (depending on breakfast ), regularly compete in 600's and up for anything. We thought a fireball would be good because it has a centerboard and lifting rudder etc so good for river sailing (we hit the mud many times in our Dads 400 at DYC )

Does anyone know of any cheap (sub £500) Fireballs for sale at their clubs and agree with the choice of boat? If not, what would you recomend?

Thanks

Splosh and GBR884.

Yep 2 at the moment not far away. Ones in Kent, the other in Hampshire way.
Ones wood, the others fibreglass, take a look, not bad for what they are at the moment!

Don't forget Brightlingsea has its "Pyefleet Week" (August 17-23). Either fleet racing for the Fireball's or lots in a handicap race.

Fibreglass at that price will likely be heavy and slow, but a good wood one will give you loads of fun and lots of bimbling capabilities!

I reckon about a grand or so will get something reasonably decent, as a basic starting point. Cheaper than that and you could try ebay - there have been the odd one or two there lately.

Edit: three on there at the mo'. search for (trust me):     fireball sail -"deep purple" -"robbie" -nato

Don't forget to look at the for sale list on the UKFA site :

http://www.fireball-dinghy.org.uk/FB%20forsale.htm

there's about 8 or so on there at the moment at less than a thousand.

Chris you should be ashamed of yourself - not using a boat for 15 years is very very sinful!!!!

If I were you i would look into the third one down that seems like a fantastic price for a boat with only "slight" damage. So if you don't mind doing a bit  of work  you could have a almost competitive fireball for under a grand. If I dint already have "too many boats" I would probably be considering it.
