From my point of view no real surprises with the Olympic selection. Also good to let the Radial trials keep going as things are so close atm, not sure why Laura can not qualify though.

I don't see why the don't allow countries to send two representatives in classes where they have enough sailors of a high enough standard. It happens enough in other sports where there are several competitors from the same country, for example running, swimming etc. Why shouldn't Ian and Ben or Shirley and Sarahs crews be allowed to go? Seems like a double standard. This might result in big fleets, but why not run heats as with other sports? |

... because the number of sailors is limited to 400. btw I think both Iain (Star) and Ben (Finn) will go, they just need to sort out the funding... Edited by Jon Emmett |

Do we ever know what the RYA means. Good luck to everyone that has been selected especially Sarah, Sarah and Pippa and the 2 windsurfers Nick Dempsey and Bryony Shaw.

surely it's about timing rather than funding. The AC schedule hasn't even been looked at at so far. There is talk of 2 warm up regattas next year and whilst they may not clash with the olympics they may effect the build up. If Ben is tied up with the cup may be Ed Wright might go instead.

Performance targets will probably be Sail Melbourne (jan) Palma Olympic reggata. whoever performs will go assuming the nation has qualified for all events? Think we have.........

If what you say is true, isn't it slightly worrying that Ben & Iain's involvement with the AC campaign might interfere with their preparations for the Olympics? I thought their "focus" was on the games... Additionally, I see Shirley's come out with a statement about the Yngling selection...clearly not very happy

You'd hardly expect her to be... She may well have had the faster crew when the Games come along, but I rather suspect either crew is equally capable of winning a medal. |
