The MRX is a GRP version of a Merlin Canterbury tails i think ??  They dont have carbon rigs etc. and are very good but not really like a merlin Hannah i thiink they are a lot heavier.

With 18-19 stone a Scorpion would suit your weight.  You'd want one with a raking rig to let you depower as the wind builds but all of the newer boats have this and many older ones have been converted.   Long competitive life means you don't have to pay top money to get a competitive boat.   Not that I'm biased!

Tom is right, you will pick up a decent merlin for £2500 - £3000  The only problem you will have is with maintanace as it will be wooden!

Go for the Merlin, much better boat than a 200, so much more responsive and gives loads of feedback when sailing. You don't have to spend that much money to get a nice one....
Needs to sail more...

Woops, I was sailing an MRX, but they're pretty similar. Well we were getting a bit overpowered and it wasn't that windy...

Speed is all relative.

When I had a Topper I viewed a 5o5 as fast, then I had a Dart 18, I Viewed a Hurricane 5.9 fast, now I've an F16, I view a Tornado as a bit faster !!!!!!!
