Jesh guys I was only joking about machining the logo!!!!!!! (but if I really wanted to do it I would put money on it that you wouldn't be able to tell by the machining As for gold fleet at the moment I'd struggle to get into the bronze fleet! Calm down guys Thanks for backing me up Tim Edited by les5269 |

Truth is that any smod becomes "developable" once the top bods have worked out where the holes are in the design's performance curve - even a boat as well conceived as the 49er. Mind you - £800 isn't bad for both foils. You wouldn't get a top designed (German) high-aspect centre blade for our 505 for that..! Oh well, it's only money - after all..... |

I'm pretty sure that Les realised this when he said "joke" after his quip. Not really sure that this will effect many forum members... to get in the gold fleet you're probably sailing rather than sat in front of a pc! |

And that would of course only be the case if you actually managed to get yourself in to the Gold fleet. You can still use the old foils. |

Machining on a logo so that old design foils looked as if they were new design ones would probably cop you a rule 69 hearing and at least disqualification from the entire event.

They have thought of the club sailors! That is why its only for the GOLD FLEET at International events, thats 20 boats sailing the gold fleet. What it does mean for the club sailor is that all the top guys with nicely faired foils will then be selling them off cheap to the club sailor. Les, you could have a go at maching the logo but I believe that they would still need to be IHC stickered to sail in the Gold Fleet. Which would mean being measured to the CNC foils dimensions. |

I imagine that if you succeed in qualifying for the gold fleet at the 2008 worlds in an old beat up boat with old foils then some kind soul will probably lend you a set of the new ones so you can sail the gold fleet. You might have less luck of course if the boat is prepped to an inch of its life with new rags and the old foils faired and polished to perfection... Edited by JimC |

Pffft I'll just take mine to work and machine the logo into them myself ! (joke!!) I don't think they have really thought about all the club sailors who will probably stay with the old ones (and not worry about it too much) It will just mean that we wont be able to sail in the gold fleet anymore |

I'd prefer to fair the foils to a high standard instead of pay £800 to keep the boat purely class legal. The foils are cleaner and slightly narrower than the existing foils so they will perform better at top end speed, less drag and less cause for seperation, however in the lighter conditions, the older foils will perform better due to having better lift characteristics. From what I've heard, there are a lot of guys who will sail with the old foils right up till the 1st of July as the old foils seem to perform better. In the long run, it seems good for the class as everyone will be using exactly the same foils. At the present moment, being a student is probably biasing my opinion slightly, might have a quick look at that "sponsership" thread..
