The final chapter in this sorry tale occurred on Saturday when I was rigging the boat with my newly acquired vernier adjusters on the lowers... Turns out they are slightly shorter than the metric, single row, ones so would not work

I built a barbecue kitchen and bar, plus fitted a cctv system to house and gardens with a DVR, oh and a hutch for the motorbike.

4.8mm is the metric conversion for 3/16", 5.2mm is the tapping size for an M6x1mm thread.

5.2mm, think it's a pop rivet size, 4.8mm too, not sure though.

That's more or less what I've done, by wiggling the 5mm drill around a bit
. The issue is probably down to tolerances rather than design.
