Never really thought about this, but is this time of year the wrong time to sell a boat, or does it not matter that much now that most people sail all year round?
I've just put my RS600 up for sale but does anyone think I might have more luck either after xmas or even next spring?
By the way if anyone does want a 600, I am open to cheeky offers!

Definitely wait until spring. Kind of doubt this is the moment when many people are thinking "Great time to get a boat I'll have to do lots of swimming to get to grips with".

Personally it doesnt bother me when I buy regarding cold weather as I sail all year round anyway.  However I am more likely to buy at the end of the season because I know that prices are reduced then.

I however am the exception to the rule; boat prices are deflated at this time of year and demand is lower so it is not the greatest time to sell. The best time to sell is probably february - march onwards as this is when demand is highest (at the start of the season).

It all depends on demand ... I just sold my Musto Skiff (I have a new one on order), I had 4 people call about it in a week;t one brought it two of the others brought other Mustos within the same week ... Like I say depends on demand for your class.

Why are you selling Jamie?  Are you moving into something bigger and better?

Can you go much faster on Pennine!

No, just getting a newer 600, I'd like a Musto but I want to spend another year in the 600 to see if I can improve at all, it's a running joke in the class that I come second in every open meeting so I want to see if I can do any better than that with a newer ship.
Plus it's an easier step financially, rather than going from a £2500 RS to a £6000 Skiff!
Gives me another year to argue with the sailing club committee that a Musto is perfectly safe on Pennine!

A bad time to sell is just after you've paid the compound fees! When the fees come seem to dictate when people sell their boats though I guess it depends on the class. For expensive boats it may be better to wait until the spring.
