Hi Colin,

RC Lasers do (very) occasionally come up on ebay, otherwise the link above.  I am not sure what your reasons for going for an RC Laser is however you may also want to consider the micro magic, link below which is considerably cheaper, smaller and sails like a proper boat.

Firefly F517 - Nutshell
Micro Magic RC yacht - Eclipse

Hi my old man has one he only used about a dozen times and is now in his loft. He's on holiday the moment, but I can ask him about it when he gets back if you want.

no they arent a problem , being a scale model of a laser they dont sail like designed model yachts , you have to "sail " the rc laser , changing things all the time , this is what makes them more fun and engaging. a purpose designed model yacht will relatively sail itself with only minor tweaks needed and taking now and again , though initial setting up very important as the are designed to .

During my time was interesting to note that some model yachters with top experience 1 meter experience just could not get to grips with the rc laser and blamed the boat .

In summary , rc lasers dont sail like rc yachts , but for a full size dinghy sailor this is a bonus , at end of day its how its sailed that makes the difference , not what you ve spent .

micro magics are cheaper (though arguably once you start paying for top sails , rigs , pro builds can be pricey ) and have a great following , cant see though at the small size they can behave like a proper yacht , though ive never seen one in the flesh never mind sail one , though we sailed something similar , many moons ago .

The micro magic is actually a very rewarding little boat. I agree that the laser doesnt sail like a proper yacht, nor does it sail like a laser. The micro magic on the other hand is quite skiffy, you often find yourself running after it down wind, quite quick for a little boat! The disadvantage is that because the keel is so small you tend to need more rigs than most other boats. The advantages being that it fits fully rigged in the boot of your car, changing rigs takes under a minute with the right systems, it is seriously good fun to sail, you can build it yourself and make your own sails and rigs, the class is very active and the standard is very high, the list goes on....

So micro magic, you know it makes sense! (should really get mine back on the water! its been a few years now!)

Many thanks for all replies, must admit the last 2 replies have somewhat put me off the Laser, so where i go from here is a bit daunting.
