Hi all,

I'm a beginner sailor sailing toppers and pico's and the best sailing games i played with my friends didnt really have a name but we set out a triange couse and sailed round it starting at different points whilst lobbing each other with water ballons . was great fun then at the end just play pirates and steal each others boats on the way back. Good times. Well the game was designed for us all to learn to sail round each of the points so there was a soul purpose. Anywho i just thought i'd share that with you all.

Happy Sailing

Sounds fun XxLaserChickxX  Might use that during a 'Kids Day' we're holding soon at my club

Does anyone else have any suggestions for any other on the water games  - suitable for beginners / Kids up to 15?

I seem to recall that seeing how far you could climb up your Topper mast before you capsized was always good fun. Not sure of the educational aspect though.

The Start Sailing supplement with the latest Y&Y issue suggests a few games aimed at improving boat handling and speed control. Might be worth having a look.

Yeah the triangle course is a great one, beginners dont seem to get bored of it! Also another one some people find fun is sailing around a mark which is quite far away (or seems far away). And of course the water balloons whilst sailing helps with co-ordination, unless you have a crew then you just get hit!

Our Club has got a load of plastic ducks. During children events they get scattered on the lake and the youngsters have to go and collect them up in their boats.

I seem to recall they were used in an adult event too. There was a start line and a windward mark. The windward mark had a paddling pool attached containing the ducks. Adults sailing in childrens boats (Zephyrs - remember them!) had to start, sail the beat, round the windward mark, collect a duck and sail backwards to the start line crossing it the wrong way. Sail to nearby landing stage, hand duck in and repeat! Great fun.

Tag with a ball passed to each other

Football, rescue boat is the goal, one either side.

Follow my leader

Catch the ducks/corks/water balloons with points on/in, highest team wins.

Sink the topper (as many as can sail on a topper) so you round a buoy, pick up another person etc until you can't sail any more!

Capsize challenge (how many capsizes in a minute)

Check out Oppi/Topper class websites, they have loads of things to do.

ETC ETC ETC
