Thanks guys for all the Advice. I went to look at the Laser that Les suggested and I am now the new owner. Its an early boat but seems to be in reasonable nick. It had some wear at the top of the mast step which I have repaired and the foils need tidying up a bit but I'm sure it will be fine.

All I need to do now is learn how to sail it .

What about an OK? Great boats and pretty cheap and also solo is another good choice, a lot better than lasers IMO. Also you can get a good cheap one for £750!

You may be able to find a boat with a "green" cover at one of your local ponds and make the owner a offer....

There are a few sub £500 Lasers on the boats and outboards site - sorry Y&Y, love your magazine and have been buying it for 30 years so I hope you don't mind the plug for another site!
 
It's also worth looking at club noticeboards, as you sometimes see the odd bargain there.
