Well it is now just a few weeks before the ISAF Worlds where approximately 75% of the spots for the Olympics will be decided. The UK is lucky that they will most likely quality all classes but who will go?

I think Sarah, Sarah and Pippa are looking best in the Yngling for example...

Agreed, I think Robertson Lush and MacGregor will have to do pretty special in Cascais to have a chance of going to Quingdao.

Morrison/Rhodes and Draper/Hiscocks should be a good battle for selection in the 49ers, and i wouldn't want to choose between Clark, Brewster, Baldwin and Vickers for the Radial, especially after the result in Medemblik.

Am i right in saying that the results in the ISAF worlds go towards national qualification but not towards individual sailor selection?  If so, how does the team go about selecting the sailors for each class, do the RYA set out a strict selection process or does the final decision come from Stephen Park et al.

You forgot to mention Dobson, who has top Brit in a lot of the international regattas!

ISAF Worlds will qualify the Nation (75% places given, 25% at next Worlds approx...)

The Country (BOA) choses who to send to the Olympics (for example Ben Ainsle will not be at Cascais but will be at the pre-Olympics...)

I knew there was another one dammit!  It's great to see so much close competition within the radial class, and i'm sure that who ever gets selected will do a great job.

You mentioned Ben Ainslie getting back in Finn for the pre-olympics.  If last years worlds are anything to go by he shouldn't have too much trouble getting back in the groove.  If i remember rightly those worlds were sailed in tricky winds, similar to what might be expected in Qingdao, if a little cooler!  It will be a great shame for Ed Wright if Ainslie pips him to selection, and i wouldn't bet against it.

Nick Craig was top brit at the recent Europeans in what looked like a tricky event. Pretty impressive for an amature to beat the pros ...

I noticed he was fairing well after the first few day, do you know where he finished?

I didn't see the names of other brit's, was Ed Wright not there? Scott seems to be adapting well to the move from laser to finn.  I suppose he's currently in the process of eating lots of pies!

The Worlds is the key event for everyone this year, hence a lot of top sailors will miss their Europeans.

who gives a monkeys?

too much cash is directed at these people as witnessed by an amateur being the top UK sailor at the Finn Europeans ahead of many funded pros, including Brits.

I dont mind throwing money at genuine talent but there is a lot of cash clearly being wasted.

I think it is important to support the potential talent. The more people who are supported the better the chances of the cream rising to the top. Fair enough some of the Olympic Development sailors will drop out of the programme but they help push the others forward. By all accounts the Finn Europeans was not a great event from all reports hence the lack of many of the top sailors...

Nick Craig is hardly an ordinary "amateur" though is he? He spends a lot of time in OKs and Finns, and had he so chosen, I'm sure he could have gone down the professional RYA olympic squad route. Instead, he chose a more balanced life, and it seems to have suited him! Great to see him so far up the rankings.
