I understand that's a simple matter of crew weight, Redback. The 5k is much more fatty-friendly.

The Medway was good on Saturday. We sailed a Dragon and
came 5th out of about a dozen. The wind was consistent from the W and we were fully powered up. Sunday we were back to the 4000 and very fickle conditions. Nice to leave the 29ers and the 59er but it was good for the 400s so again we never made it to the front. I notice the Timmings had ditched the 800 and gone back to a 5000 - I wonder if there are any other teams in the country who prefer the 5000 over the 800? |

Keyhaven was clearly the place to be this weekend - sea breeze got up to 20 knots today!

Got back on the water for the first time in quite a while, pleasant light
breeze, proved once more with no shadow of doubt the Alto pole system is worth its weight in gold, manage to hold the 5 oh off complete with its new set of sails on a really broad reach by soaking as low as they did.. They are faster, but not fast enough to dive through the windshadow, starve the air supply and they can be held. Didn't do enough to hold some laser that just happened to go mackerel fishing around the course though... Edited by G.R.F. |

Spent another weekend remembering why I don't like sailing inland in uber flukey conditions. I'd love to claim it's me weight but there is always some sod who weighs the same but can still carve out good results....(damn you Eddie!)

I might be sailing it, but it's still sh**e!

I was buddying for a friend at the Challenger class open at Grafham Sailability. The wind was great on Saturday, but very testing on Sunday. The hospitality offered by Grafham Water Centre was superb.

I got the Moth out yesterday, the repair seems to have held. I've made a couple of tweaks to the wand length and the rudder angle and it went like a bomb! I've never been scared going upwind before but it just felt wrong to be going at that speed to windward. I managed one foiling gybe, on the rest of them it touched down on the way out of the gybe but stayed upright, a big improvement on my usual technique of going for the gybe and capsizing instantly! |

Medway conditions testing. Our long distance race, the Wilsonian Grand Prix, suffered from some tricky wind. We had cloud streets from the SW for the first 2/3s and this meant some parts of the course had wind and others didn't. We started in a strong Westerly which suddenly switched back and forth to a S Westerly and lightened, eventually dying. An Easterly then came in and was blowing nicely by the time we'd showered and were drinking our beers. The Wayfarers and other slower boats who stated early managed to sail most of the course in a breeze, and two very fast boats made good use of it too. But the slower fast handicap boats were caught out. |

Missed an interesting weekend. B14 fleet suffered, on Saturday:
one boat ripping out a pintle and subserquently snapping the top off their mast a shredded spinnaker a cracked carbon wing (very worrying) many broken sailors thanks to some rather nasty wind-against-tide action. Barry and I failed to finish the first two races, and headed for shore. Didn't help that I was already broken from my birthday on Friday. Tried to drink through the tiredness on Saturday night; ended up in bed at 9pm! Today, first race was full on (but with much flatter water)- excellent fun. The wind then died and started to swing round- the last race was at about 180° to the first one. Less fun, on the foredeck :( |
