Iv been out of the sport for a few years and looking to buy a new boat,most likly a 600,noticed an mx ray for sale,I remembered a lot of hype about the boat and a growing circuit,anyone tell me what went wrong!

They are brilliant offwind and a lush boat but i have heard they are very hard work to get going upwind !

Robson, be careful on buying a boat that will be hard to get rid of in the future. The MX ray certainly fits that situation. The RS600 may also start to drift into that area as it has been superseded by the RS700and the MPS. Just look at the price of second hand RS600.

Then I suppose your choice will depend on where you sail, what type of sailing you want and your size. Not being biased but have you considered the Contender?

Great boat downwind.. rig is a bit to flexy for upwind work. There was somebody selling spares a while ago who was class secretary and trying to start things up. Not sure what its come to- but I'm fairly certain there isnt a big circuit.

The builder in the US went bust a few years ago and the UK association faded to nothing.  The one good thing is that with no official spec you could easilly fiddle with it to speed it up (stiffer top mast would propbably have helped it from what i heard) and race under the old handicap with no-one the wiser (well untill you started winning everything ).

the circuit is tiny-nonexistant, dont know why it just didnt ever really take off.
