The early Angel ones have an alloy sleeve where the join is which goes fizz fizz and eventually bang when you sail on the sea. |

boat age isn't the crucial factor, try to judge the weigtht and look at
several in your price range - it's easy to buy the first nice one you
see but it might be worth buying the one that needs a bit of T-cut TLC
on the hull but has been in a garage for a while so is drier and
therefore lighter, also specifically ask if it's been crashed at all -
they are tough beasties to learn to drive and many have had
un-scheduled meetings with other boats, pontoons and the shoreline!

Most of the old angels have been replaced by now... I did hear a rumor when I was looking to buy one that some of the fleet were using angel masts on purpose as the flex charicteristics suited their weight a litttle better and the theory was that those that have survived this long are probibly going to last... But I wouldnt count on that if you look at a boat without a superspars stick.

not sure about numbers. mine is superspar, i hav no idea if its the original. Plenty of the older boats which originally had angel mast have probably got superspar ones by now, the only way to tell would be to ask the seller of the boat!

I know this has probably come up before, but ah well. I'm about to buy an RS600, and was wondering whether there's a specific sail number ... or a rough estimate were boats were made with superspar masts? I'm currently looking at one in the late 700's. Cheers! |
