no, but the boat is very light ( vs say RS400) and easily driven.

Also off wind it means the main is not overpowering you and is nice and light on sheet load.

Anyone who sails an RS400 should jump in a 59er for a test drive and be amazed at the light touch it takes to go faster!

reasonable vid', pity about the voice over-

As an update to this story.

The owner in question has now bought himself a new jib and the difference in shape is quite marked. Its still a flat'ish cut but at least it does have some shape.

A demonstration of the fact that strict one design does not mean that everyone has the same equipment!!

If the other jib was quite old and had been flogged a lot, it would be quite a different shape to the new one anyway because it had been used. The laminate cloth can shrink as it gets older. Dependent on how the cloth has been laid out, the sail could  either end up flatter or just a really horrid shape if the shrinkage is in different directions in each panel!

This is where I look really silly when someone tells me a 59er has a dacron jib ...

No Ian99, mylar and as see through as any sail I've ever seen, but also rather new looking and certsinly not thrashed.

Testing temporarily halted as the mast track has fallen off the mast!

Bad day at neil prydes then...maybe a 'friday afternoon' sail.

try laying two sigma 33 mainsails over each other

He may be banging on too much rig or halyard tension

good luck with the new sail

This might sound a real silly question but is there any possibility that the 59er sail has been mixed up with a 29er sail at some point, even before the sails got their class insignia stamped on them? I don't know what the measurements are from off the top of my head but the difference between sail size might be because of this reason. might be worth measuring the old 59er sail against a 29er one if you get the chance.
