I've puzzled over this for a while, so it's time to ask the question: what is the boat in the foreground?:

Salient points:

Asymmetric (obviously)

Only one full-width batten in loose-footed mainsail (so not RS2/400). Flotation panel in top panel?

Plumb bow

Is that a mainsheet hoop?

Looks like an asymm. alternative to a 12/Lark/Merlin.

Stratos - barge of a boat ... our sailing school uses them.

yeah, stratos has mainsheet loop and flotation planel.

I think they are pretty good on PY ... that may appeal to you ...

I'm sure I remember the stratos having bigger asy than that but it does look like one. A barge it may be but like some other training boats if you get a fat crew on the wire in a blow with the asy up it can be quite entertaining.

It depends what you want as a boat. The latest training boats have all been routomoulded plastic, the stratos is a training plus racing boat that is great fun esp with the asy

                                                                                                                                                                                       How true is this statement "I like winning but the quality of the sailing is more important, and the barge concept doesn't appeal" We would do much better on our water in a GP and give ourselves an easier life but no, the sailing is more important than the winning hence the Tasar which sometimes, just sometimes makes us feel young again!
