Sand varnish mix always looks like a mess, other than that I can't help you.

I've never tried it in anger, but a little accident made me think that rolling peel ply onto the paint when its very nearly but not quite hard might well produce an effective, good looking and low aggression non slip surface. Peel ply isn't that cheap though.

Sugar and paint. Then add grip strips (3M).

I always favour a product used in manufacturing and repairing windsurfers. It comes as a two pack application (clear and easy to roller on) and is awesome stuff. Great grip and non-aggresive (think windsurfing in bare feet). Its around 15quid and is easily enough to cover the floor of a 14.

When I can engage brain and remember the product name I'll let you know.

Why would you want an abrasive grip?  like you say, painful!!  If you fall you're going to end up cut and bleeding all over your boat.  Progrip and good footwork is all you need.
