A 97 rules boat is supposed to go quicker than a 49er downwind, but only when it's really howling.

I imagine it must be quite frustrating to do a handicap event in a Cherub, because there's always people going to be questioning the legitimacy of the win. Besides that if one wants to truly handicap the Cherub and indeed many other boats a different handicap is needed for different windstrengths... although I hear the t-foil may be changing all this??

is this  thread   not about the new women's   olympic  skiff rather than the fact that the py system is never going to keep up with  the true speed  of  development boats around the course  (not  max speed ) I hit a higher max speed in a non t foil 14 than in my t foil boat!

Right i raced suicide blonde in weymouth this weekend and even when the breeze did finally fill in they were no where to be seen! And this weekend some 14 sailors proved what 14 sailing is all about when they beat simon hiscocks over the water. By a LONG way! Hee hee oh and we SPANKED the 12 foot skiff

The PY for the 12 skiff is supposed to be 875... so cherub PY therefore should be less than 800?

So lets get this straight forumites. Cherub sailors are more than happy to boast how quick their boats are especially the skiffs. And how they can take 9ers and 14s. But when it comes to it they are found wanting in a big way.
Oh btw stu already got mine thanks, but your order of humble pie could soon be ready

Like I said earlier, the relative speeds of all these boats is well known except
perhaps for the Cherubs as they are not seen around very much. But its a 12
foot boat and until its foil borne thats its limiting factor.

We were pacing one in a Laser 4000 yesterday... and yes it was an '05 rules twin wire boat.

Isn't this why we have classes? To find out which Cherub/14/Firefly/Laser is fastest by racing each other at open meetings or (for the lucky ones) in a club fleet? Comparing the classes is a little bit futile, as even classes with similar yardsticks will be vastly different speeds in different conditions. And once you factor in helming ability, it becomes impossible to compare. The Laser 2000's came to visit our club on Sunday, and in a 3 lap race the leading boat lapped the last one. And that is a very easy boat to sail. The helming ability will make rather more difference than which particular speedy skiff is being sailed.
