Has anybody got any good tips for going deep with a proj in light stuff (~8-10kts)?

We went well upwind but slower boats shot past us downwind. We were playing the angles to some extent but despite coming up some way couldn't get enough pressure to make it worthwhile.

This is a pic of 'Nemo' with her new windows. Hope to see lots of projections racing this year.

Looks very smart! What antifoul did you use on her?

Also how well do they stand on the keel? I'd like to stick mine on a scrubbing post from time to time but I'm a bit wary of standing it on such a thin keel.

stand on the keel very well, very stable. Just give her a slight heel of 2/3 degrees inboard to the posts. We add extra lines to hold the bow and stern up and in. Then one tight line around the mast just below the first spreaders just in case.

We used some high performance hard racing antifouling. Cant remember what make. went on well but one tin only just covered the hull with one coat with enough for double coats on patches. Feels quite smooth so happy with it. See how it has coped when we scrub for first time.

That's good news. We've got interspeed ultra on Upstart with two coats on. Sanded it to a pretty good shine before we went in, right down to 1000 grade. Keen to get her on the scrubbing posts every now and again so that's great news, cheers.

Brys - IRC of 0.965 looks like one of the best ratings I've seen, you should be pretty competitive.  What's your weight, SPA & HSA?  Are you still planning to come to Falmouth Week in August?

Tim - We have struggled downwind in the really light stuff for the past couple of weeks against J92 & J109 as high angles were needed to keep some pressure in the kite.  When there is enough wind to sail deeper, keeping weight forward and leaning to windward seems fast.

Good luck.

Hi Garth,

We are now not likely to make it down to FW this year....sorry, would love to but time is too tight. Will try to join the fleet in 2008.

I will PM my numbers to you.

Simono - I notice a J80 in the background - do you race against them? our main opposition is the J80 fleet and we struggle, especially downwind as they have a 65sqm kite and rate 0.967.

At least for us the Projection needs a bigger spinnaker, Someone above mentioned 50sqm, has anybody got experience of using a big 'un, of know what the largest kite you could actually set on the standard rig?
