hi ive seen previous posts on the RS500 but not sure on it. It looks like a nice boat but i cant find decent information on other websites. They look pretty cheap aswel so thats a bonus. So does anyone know:

Just look through the previous posts mate. These questions have been answered a thousand times before.....
but: they're depowered fairly easily being a modernly rigged boat but not as easily depowered as a bethwaite rig. the PY isn't confirmed yet but is somewhere around 950. A way, way more stable than the 29er about 120-135 optimum PB |

The 500 responds well to LOTS of downhaul and when you slacken the lowers the kicker will have good effect too. As for weight, Im about 10 stone and i had a (roughly) 9 stone crew and i didnt feel overpowered when we sailed in a good gusty breeze.
Stability, no problem! The one thing i think should be mentioned is that although the mast is tapered, it seems very stiff at the top and doesnt flex off when gusts hit. And so when a gust does hit, you will find yourself having to ease a lot of main to keep the boat in check. Frankly, I'm surprised. I'd have expected a PY nearer 1000 looking at the spec. But maybe their being easy to sail means average people are sailing them to their potential, which means they are getting good results in club racing (unlike a lot of 29ers - ref our PM chat, Doug) |

Really? How come? What part of the spec list would you have though would take it back to that? The sails seem of reasonable size and the boat doesn't appear heavy (it comes up the beach without trouble). |

Weight is comparable to a Laser 3000, length slightly less. OK the sails are somewhat bigger, but that only brings a benefit till you're overpowered. Spec not so different to a Buzz. I agree, having watched them, that they look slippery, but one has yet to beat my V3k on the water... Maybe in the light stuff, though, as PB suggests. |

500 is too stable for me, compared to a 29er its like a barge. im not a great fan of the boat id go for a 9er despite the price.
