There are a couple of obvious spikes in the data

If you would like the original source files in Velocitek Control Centre format (ie if you want to use Google earth or want to see how many times you capsized in the marina) then let me know and I will send them out.

I have made videos of the races where I have more than one boats data and have uploaded to YouTube.

R3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmNc7WOtGZg

R6: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mk8L4-vwmU4

The videos are very simplistic to cut down on size and complexity for the web.

Thats pretty good, I like the colour changes for different speeds

Video Screencapture of GPSar (Google "SnagIt")

Also - how do you make the tracks erase as they age?

Turn Trajectories on and choose "Footprints".  Then from the options menu under Path view settings choose "Path visible length" to adjust how long the tracks stay on screen.

These vids have basically every bell and whistle turned off in GPSar so that it can be clear in such a small resolution.

At last suitable conditions for the first club race of the tin teardrop DC

And a result! 1st on handicap vs some RS 400s and some RS 700s.

The joys of low water and an adverse tide of 2 kts - but it does mean tacking practice. Possibly more tacking in one evening than a whole nationals.

Two capsizes, one disconnected extension, but still fast enough to overtake the RS 400s and catch the RS700s on the first reach and gain enough time to beat the RS400s

Velocitek GPS track. - just 10kts+ in a puff at the end. - but in light wind 5-8 kts.

The boat feels very easy to drive - but is also fast going backwards!.

The camber inducer sleve luff sail is very stiff and a bit dead feeling, but seems fast enough, even though I can't tell what downhaul and vang is right.

I think it would be very good to try and put together some polar diagrams for some racing dinghies.  Has anybody got any data which we could use.  I have a gestimate of how a laser 4000 performs.  Very much a gestimate based on experience and interpolation with some polars published by Frank Bethwaite.

I borrowed a GPS at our windsurfing Midwinters last year and scored 25.4
knots max with two 10 second averages of 22.5 (I'm not that slow on fast
gear, this was on a 21kg 12' original Windsurfer).

The owner printed off the numerical readings but i've lost them. He was
then ranked about 8th of the 900 or so sailors on GPS speedsailing and is
a well-respected figure.

So the question is......can we assume the 22.5 for 10 seconds is legit??
Would a spike or similar incorrect reading last long enough to have an
effect over 10s considering the highest speed was 25.4?

I assume it's all legit as there were a bunch of very serious speedsailors
watching and none of them have expressed any doubts about the speed.

The Moths have done a bit of research on this and this is what they are going for...
