So, as it has now come to light that politicians can not be trusted, which is what the populous has always thought for many years, I think it should be up to the electorate to decide who should become Speaker. If I had three votes they would go to the following. In order of preference they are:

1)       Vikki Pollard – as she would be able to command respect for her ability to conclude all matters arising within the house in a meaningful and timely way, with the single word “Wotever”

2)       Norman Stanley Fletcher – as he runs Slade Prison he used to a bunch of double dealing backstabbing undesirables

3)       Joan Rivers – as no MP in their right mind would ever open a debate and then have to listen to her tone of voice.

Who would you elect and why?

Hey, if anyone is sailing on the serpentine, i'm playing too! I walk round it at lunch every day, it keeps me sane, but at the same time is so demoralising, seing all that windswept water, and not being able to enjoy it!

As for speaker of the house, Jimmy Saville, just to have 'Order' permanantly remplaced with 'Now then, now then...'

Sadly you have to consider that the electorate chose the politicians...

I'm beginning to wonder if what we are seeing is the beginning of the end of the current phase of democracy as a political system... Its all rather like the issues that led to the failure of democracy in classical Greece.
Politicians selected by popular image rather than competence - check.
Venal and self important - check
Concerned with nothing else but maintaning their own power - check...
getting the country into wars no-one wanted - check

Bother that, its wednesday evening and I'm going sailing!

Guys, there is only one person I know of who I would want to be the house
speaker.
Jeremy Clarkson.
As soon as someone says something he doesn't like, you'll hear "Oh shut up
you absolute moron!!"

Or as a second choice
G.R.F

If either get the place, I'll never miss PM's questions.

The speaker is supposed to be neutral in the debates that go on, so I can't see either of those names working. Someone with a big voice would be good - Brian Blessed, maybe? "Gordon's Alive!" would have added meaning.
Apologies to those too young to have heard of Flash Gordon...

Don't Clarson involved in Parliment, he'd not have enough time to do Top Gear properly, and that would be a far greater loss!
