I think you've got it spot on there James, just wish I could write it that eloquently!

Unfortunately until a credible alternative can be found many eligable voters will simply not vote. In this current climate the opportunties for an open and honest political party who use the media effectively to spread their message just doesnt exist, as only those with an overiding greed seem capable of exploiting the potential of the media giants but in a way that often leads to large peaks and troughs in fortune ie. Build you party up with great messages of reduced taxes, then next ego-maniac turns the media and brings the party back down to earth.

Anyway who are we kidding here, the political party in charge are just frontmen, doing the bidding of unseen civil servants, so ultimately unless reforms in the civil service are introduced we could vote Screaming Lord Such into power and we still end up in the same stinking mess we are in now!!!

I'm sure your not-voting will suit the big wigs just fine. Makes it easier for them to set things up the way they like, as they need fewer votes to win.

Plenty of smaller parties with (still) principled people in them, e.g. Green? Try finding fault with MEP Caroline Lucas' princples.

to seek out their message when they claim to be in politics.

Yes, that's actually very Grumph-like. The Greens may have little funding and clout in UK, but they're big in such as Germany where they share govenrment and have even held sway. They have a full range of policies, all of them ethical and generally realistic about the state of the world (unlike some do-gooder parties)

Frankly, it's your country - is it really too much to ask that you sort out who you want to vote for and then do it? Things will never change if everyone just says 'I don't like any of the major parties so I won't vote at all' - how does that make your impact any different from someone who just doesn't give a damn?

I've always thought that, in order to separate the ones who can't be bothered from the ones who hate all the candidates, there should be a "none of the above" box on the ballot paper, and if "none of the above" wins, the constituancy gets a plastic dummy sat on the benches at Parliament to remind all the MPs that they can be replaced by a mannikin.
As for a sailing related claim, I would like to employ my family as professional sailors on my expense account yacht, for which I would claim mooring fees on the Thames and the Solent.

Brilliant!

I often toyed with the idea of putting up a sp**f election poster at work, with a picture of the office president on one side, listing below it his failures, then alongside, a photo of 'My Dog', with equivalent entries of 'Would not have done this', and finishing up at the bottom of the columns with 'Unpopular with staff' and 'Very popular with staff'.

The fact was, that if the President had done nothing but sit in his room, the office would have run itself better. I sometimes wonder about that with the banks and their directors...

So that'll be the difference between "I don't give a sh*t" and " I don't give a sh*t because no-one in the political world agrees with my every thought" will it? Has it occurred to you that no-one with real political experience and knowledge shares your - apparently pretty extreme libertarian - views because they know something you don't?

On another issue, it's a little rich to blame the media so strongly for the state of politics, and then say you won't vote for the Greens because they lack media coverage!!!!

No FD? No Comment!

All this anger and rage....? Come on guys, it's not like they're spending
billions and billions of your taxpayers money on the continuing
development and arming of nuclear weapons. Weapons that quite frankly
have little other strategic use than to wipe out vast civilian populations
and making land masses completely uninhabitable.
Oh wait...... that's exactly what they're doing.
You don't pay tax, they TAKE tax.
And if they're going to take my money without asking in the first place,
I'd far rather it be used to clean a swimming pool or buy some porn than I
would it be used to create nuclear warheads.

If I were a minister I'd by a fleet of foiling moths for me and all my
friends and claim it as investment and research in to eco freindly
transport.
OOOO we could make a film similar to 'Birds' by Alfred Hitchcock. We'll
have thousands of us in moths circling, pecking and attacking any gin
palaces in sight!! Except rather than pecking, we'll have potassium and
ceasium we can through at it.
