Do your pass plus.  It cost about £120, but acts as a year no claims.

Get one of your parents to be the owner of the car, then add you as a named driver.  It was the only way my brother could afford to insurance his car [mark iv 1.9tdi golf]

Mine, barely lost anything putting my parents on there .. Infact, a few quotes were higher! Even will full protected no claims of 5+ years and no claims ever! Turns out half the cost is actually the area I live in! (Still in the region of £1700 though .. But thats fully comp!) But as said, it can't hurt to try. You can also try for a "low mileage" pricing .. Under 6999 miles (iirc) is classed as low mileage, and can often lower it a little bit. Don't lie to insurers though, they know all ...

I just spent 4 months insured on a 2.8lr Volvo XC70 though .. Didn't cost me a penny! (Not bad when you've been driving for 6 months and you're asked if you can do a few hundred miles in it ... ) Lovely cars to drive .. And I'm now saving for one!

When getting a quote, add your parents onto the insurance as named drivers. This is legal, and will help bring your insurance down massively. I'm 23 and have 5 years no claims and it still makes a big difference for my premium.

That attitude is exactly why you should have a sh*t car until you grow up a bit. Premiums for young drivers are high for a very good reason - it's a much bigger risk for the insurers! And if you're 28 and can't get insured on a 1.2 Clio, you've been doing something very wrong!

Correct i have, and something that is highly irresponsible! I'm not proud.

when i was 18 i inherited ma and pa's old mk 3 golf. 1.9 diesel cl. had 180,000 on the clock and was still going fine. Insurance was less than a grand, just! that thing coped with anything. you can pick one up for a grand. the mk 4 are good also but apparently not the same reliability as the old mark 3 cl. I used to wind the passengers seat down flat and put a lilo on it and sleep like that, was fine.

When you've just past your test there is no shame in

Honda Jazz ?.....available with a 1.2 or 1.4 engine, the rear seats drop into the floor to give a completely flat load carrying area. We've used it with roof-bars to carry the Topper or a Laser Bug and we've towed my old Vareo behind it. A 'new shape' Jazz has just come out so there might be some bargains to be had with the 'old shape' version at a Honda dealer
