The wind is at the sides so aim for them straight off the line and only tack back to the centre for the mark when you have to.

bang the cliffs....can pay to overstand and then plane in.

often tricky to be scored ocs..(ie push it a little)

don't worry about the windsurfers on the run home, it'll hurt them more than you

When all the windsufers come off the water thunder and lightning is comiing...

drink lots in the yotting bar...the mojitos work well..

The marks tend to be in the same place every year on permanent lines, as lake about half a mile deep. They tend to prefer the right hand side course if sailing from Riva. They rarely call OCS, and hit port tack as soon as posible. This takes you into a small bay on the right, during practice find a line to tack for the lay line. The first one to it will be first at the windward mark. I have seen boats port tack from mid line, duck 10 or so boats, and come out with big smiles as they hit the lay line first, not for the feint hearted. Launch before the wind comes in, its the black line that appears down lake just after lunch, can get tricky to get out once the ora has arrived. Launching from Riva is a laugh, you have to launch off a floating slip, with about a hundred foot drop off the end, so no chance holding the boat especially after the wind has come in. Tie a long rope to your trolley, get someone to hold it, then its a bit like a bobsleigh start, bit of a worry with a t foil rudder no doubt! Hopefully the guys behind will recue your trolleyfor you.

Best place to sail in the world!!

Tips....

1.  The Oca bar is the drinking hole of choice for sailors.  Beware the Cuba Libre's from there... they are strong.

2.  Al Vaticano (nearly opposite the Oca) is a fabulous family run traditional restaurant.  Not as cheap as some but you won't regret it.

3.  Take lots of spares.

4.  Try and launch from the Lagoon which is behind the clubs marina.

5.  Attempting to steal a peddalo (incredibly funny when drunk) will land you in jail for a few days, with some nasty bruises to (from) boot, and an expensive court settlement some months later.

6.  The chips from the van in the car park behind the sailing club are a great snack immediately after racing.

7.  Take some Miltons sterilising powders with you to wash your kit / ropes / boat in after the last race, or it will smell forever of lakewater / algae.

8.  Enjoy yourself.  Garda is one of the best places to sail on the planet - in my humble opinion or course!

Paul

Is this not a nomination for most embarassing things done while drunk?

It would be, but I'm not prepared to name names!

Not me if that's what you're asking...
