Pay the extra money and go coastal. Its harder on the coast but basically means its worth more and you actually pay less because you only have to make a one off payment.

Also there are not many 'coastal endorsement' courses for instructors so u may as well just go coastal to begin with.

Josh - Ok everyone is saying go coastal, but do you have experience of sailing on costal waters, either racing or pottering.

I did my course at UKSA (Fantastic centre), part of the course is the Seamanship, if you haven't got your wind v's tide right you get it all wrong.

So go where you want to, it also depends where you want to teach. If you don't have your PB2 yet, do that on coastal, its a) more fun, b) good experience.

Yeah costal is more fun. I sail on the north sea when I am at home but at school I have to sail on a Rezevouir. There really is no comparison because oin a rezzi you have no tide to battle with, no sand banks to take you buy surprise and no endless water streching out before you making you think you are on top of the world.

Dont have to travel the world of course.

I am doing my DI in a few weeks time, and am teaching at my home club for the next few summers!

We need to keep some decent instructors in-country, as otherwise people will go on a sunsail / neilson / wildwind / whatever sailing holiday, see they like it, come back to sail in the uk, and have TI's teaching them!!

Only thing I have left to do before Instructors .. is the 1st aid ... and thats in 2 weekends time!

It dosen't matter where you do your pbl2 as most centre don't mind too much and if you can 'do' tide in a sailing boat you can do it in a motor boat.

You can do your instructors inland which is fine if you are only looking to instruct inland but if you want to travel the world then I would try and do it at a costal centre. There are two reasons for this one is that it can be very hard to get the costal endorsement at a later date and that many costal centres will be keener to employ instructors with a costal endorsement.

As for where to do it I can recomend the Island Crusing Club in Salcombe partly because I have worked there on and off now for nearly 4 years, I would also recomend Plas Meni in Wales considered by many instructor to be one of the best centres for instructors.

As for UKSA I know LOTS of instructors that think a qualification from there might as well as come out of a cornflake packet! I did some of my yachtmasters there and I agree. To back up what I typed my back ground is that : Im a SI with Keelboat and Advanced, PBI, First Aid trainer, Yachtmaster Instructor and some other bits.

Good luck on your course and I hope you get as much out of your instructing as I do.

Racing was abandoned at our club today but when you've got two foot waves with whitehorese on a 35 acre inland water with stonewalls all around it's not worth the risk only three boats went out 2 Lasers and a Streaker, i've never seen so many capsizes in under a minute about 23 i think i was having a job to keep the saftey boat in a straight line cause of the wind.
