If you can develop the boat so that it planes upwind, IMHO it would certainly make it a more interesting proposition!

Having moved into an upwind planing dinghy last season, it was a bit of a revelation having the additional tactical options that open up to you by having an upwind VMG arc so much wider than a displacement only hull.

Hmm I thought it was ugly when I first saw it but in those test pictures it
improves, so then why is it seeing that, does anyone have any doubt
about my Frankenblaze idea?

That thing is as flawed as everything else born on the lakes of Europe, not
to mention the crap rig (just check out the bend on the boom), even a
windsurfer would horse that into the skip, how exactly are they intending
to power and depower that when the booms already bent half double in
lightish wind from merely sheeting it in?

I hate the sail it looks awful and those solid racks must carry a weight
penalty, can't see it fairing well on the South Coast it'll be ok as a
Whitstable & Inland girlie boat I guess.

Well, it looks better on the water than in the photos, but still not very pretty - functional, at least, though. Shame the film ended just when it was going to go upwind.

Is it just me or is there something very old fashionedly Finnlike about that
boat?

Why is it the masts are always so far forward in relation to the hull length?

Why has the mast not got wires on it to stop it flopping about?

Seeing that convinces me even more that something better could be
designed and built over here and based on the Blaze.

The basic architecture owes a bit to the finn, i.e the classic low, long boom which is what keeps the area low down and gap small, but also necessitates the mast being a long way forward.

Unless you do some funny stuff with cockpit geometry, the toestrap and mainsheet ratchet takeoff generally have to be behind the dagger and this dominates the cockpit layout, from which the rig f/a position follows due to the necessary position of the foils.

The position of the forward ends of the toestraps / ratchet are driven by the helm's f/a position when sailing upwind (generally slow, so boat at level trim for optimum lcg, helm fairly far forward.) The dagger position has to be forward of the toestrap/ratchet point, so the rig must be in a position that the clr and c of e are lined up relative to this, hence the "rig forward" look of most of these singlehanders.

Where the D one isn't finn-like is that its a 15' ish dinghy that weighs 55kg. Unlike the finnosaurus, which has recently, in a hugely progressive move that will no doubt revolutionise the sailing experience, dropped its min hull weight from 119kg to 116kg.

I must say I think that the D One's looks don't make my legs crumble, but its a ground up design by some clever people, has seen plenty of development, and I'd bet that a souped up blaze would struggle hard to live with it.
