I'm sure there's a good reason, but why didn't you just use off-the-boom sheeting, with a ratchet block half way along the boom?

That is the obvious solution and the one I tried first ... it's OK upwind but downwind it really gets in the way of the crew especially on the run when the crew is sitting on the leeward deck - the mainsheet was right accross the crews throat ...

The new system has a couple more turns but with nice Harken blocks and a tapered sheet fiction is not a problem.

I also expect it to be easier to tack as the extension will go through easier ...

All of this is yet to be proven on the water but I have every confidence in my contrivance ...

Some of the javelins use that settup I think, wouldnt be surprised if the aus cherubs have picked it up too
