Again the laser 2000 is a strong contender!

the 2000 is a good boat to sail and is very nice. i hate to say it but what is wrong with a 420 or a lark they are both really nice to sail and more importantly not made of old washing up bowls so dont flex as much |

I'd have to agree about the Lark. I sailed an old Parker, still stiff and strong and not heavy and handles well. If I had to race on a tight budget It would probably be one.

Well I have owned a magno for 18 months or so and thoughts are ;
Advantages 1) Very cost effective. Significantly cheaper than a Comet Verso or Laser 2K but the finish is not as good as either. You do get a lot for your money. 2) Easy to rig. As it says on the tin, 20 minutes and you are on the water. 3) The plastic hull is more or less indestructable Disadvantages 1) It does tip which can be tricky for the beginner - you will need to be agile 2) The quality of some fittings is not great but then again we have had nothing break so far and have sailed regulary in a variety of conditions 3) I think that it is difficult to sail single handed if you want to use the jib 4) Not fast but then for intermed. sailors like me the problems are usually with the helm rather than the boat. 5) Spin. is difficult but then again it is not only magno sailors who struggle ! Overall the Magno is perfectly adequate for the intermed but will I think frustrate the advanced sailor. I doubt that it will last as long as a Comet but I think it is a more exciting sail b ut not as exsiting as an RS !. |

420's are only stiff if its less than 3 seasons old. After that they are like a waterbed! |

Aren't the really old 420s supposed to be ok? Different manufacturer or something?

Having also owned a Magno I agree totally, although being tall I found single handed OK. Another Magno plus point as a river boat is the speed with which they tack.As long as it's kept flat. |

The magnos seem to be a pretty ok boat for starting ut now that they've fixed a few initial problems. But a word of advice, If you buy the magno get some righting lines and a mast head float because it floats kind of high in the water when you capsise
oh yeah and the Vibe is pretty much the same as the magno, similar design, similar sail area, sailing off the same handicap and everything. it's a lot like the Xenon is to the Omega Edited by laser47 |

Agree with all the comments on the Magno. Sailed one only 3 times but every time I came back with the kite either in a knot, torn or bundled up in the rescue boat ! That bit is a poor design. The rest of the boat is okay, but there are better choices out there like the L2000.
