What bothers me is that as a masters student you must have passed the BSc ...

What Poly are you at?

Rick

Why? It would appear that you don't seem to know much about the current engineering degree system, I'm 6 weeks into a 4 year course, leading to an MEng. For what it's worth I'm at a very good university, known for science and engineering, which is certainly not an ex-poly. There's no need to get personal. I just let myself get a little carried away with a certain line of thought. Incidentally, but for a mistake, the result would be the same. In the scheme of things it's not the daftest thing to have done after a few drinks.

Just pulling yer leg Ben ...

MM - is that what you mean by 'the forces are internal'?

Indeed. And as you point out the internal forces are important for various reasons, just not for the overall righting moment.

Ben: I know what your mean about the demon drink - my previous posting was made under the influence, which had me waking up this morning wondering if I'd completely misinterpreted you last night! But your MSc will ensure that you get the right answer even when alcohol-fuelled - that's the benefit of a university education...

This thread reminds me of a conversation I had with a friend about a Newton's cradle in outer space...

You should have got a trapeze boat - but I guess you were probably put off y the issue of how high they needed to be attached ...

So to avoid all discusion about  the 'right' height for trapeze get yourself a set of wings -  ideally on a Blaze !   Go on - you might even like it ...

I concur....

Trapezing is comfy right up to the point where you get catapulted round to meet Mr Forestay.....

Rack sailing is much more comfy....my boat is affectionately known as 'the bed' to my fellow club mates (right up to the point where  leave them for dead in a gust).
