I'd second what TT said, and yes to all your questions. I think PY of around 970 / 975 ish is about right.
Interesting comparison last weekend between RS400 and RS500 both sailed by very good guys and the RS400 was first on the water but not a huge distance. Lake sailing in medium ish breeze. It does look good with the sails up I must admit. (but not as good as an Osprey of course ![]() |

hi runningfree ... don't rule out the new V3000 from Vander Craft (who also make the Phantom) ... a smaller sail area than the Vago and 500, but 25-30 kg lighter which more than makes up for it ... from initial reports it could well turn out to be the surprise package out of these three for keen lighter weight racing crews ... there are two V3000s (3602 and 3603) sailing at Wilsonian off a 1010 PY in the medium and fast handicap fleets, scoring some good results across a broad range of conditions: http://www.wilsoniansc.org.uk/Winter06.xls (look at individual race positions not series positions) the Vago does have an enthusiastic following, and i notice there's now a class association site with chat forum at www.vago.lasersailing.com, the 3000 CA site is www.3000class.org.uk, and i have to admit the 500 looks impressive and underpriced compared with the 200 ... check out all three options at the Dinghy Show on 3/4 March Edited by yellowhammer |

Yes, I would endorse the V3000 as well for lighter crews. They and the 3000 look damn good fun.

both the V3000 and 500 look great boats and I was really impressed too when I saw a few 500s out at Thorpe Bay at the weekend, obviously they're not as sexy as the 29er.....but they do look good and quite quick too.

I would say; if you're under 65 kilo, take the V3000 and accept that it's not a comfortable sit in boat. The vago is the best boat in the plastic 2 lightweigt persons category. If you want a welldesigned boat that has a professional feel; buy the RS500 (I bought one this year and am very satisfied) |

The major benefit that the 500 has is it's part of the RS range, and generally, RS don't make bad boats. Being part of the RS stable will mean that the brand will attract a lot of sailors just due to it being an RS boat. The organisational skills of RS for running events seems unequalled just now and they do seem to be on another level from other classes for running events. Out of the Vago, V3000 and all other alternative boats, a few years down the line I'd say the RS 500 will be the most successful where others will have started to fade. Dare I say it, the 500 may even be more successful than the 29er within the UK....
