I have both helmed and crewed a buzz several times when I've been between boats. They're great if you're looking for a boat that:
a) merely creeps to windward - even doing that extremely slowly
b) appears to have been designed in the dark ages with a flat bow?!
c) is only worth sailing in anything over a force 4
d) has appauling attendance numbers at open events - only 16 at this year's nationals!!

Personally I can't see a lot going for it and certainly wouldn't recommend it.

Surely an rs200 would be much better suited to lake sailing where you've deemed a 29er too large/fast?

Except the good ones always beat your 200 on the water, Holly. Not that I've any good words to say about the Buzztub, they're 3k fodder after all, but fair's fair.

Just like to say that yes numbers on the circuit are not huge, like on an Rs circuit (as i said in a previous post), but we had more than 16 at are nats, just only 16 finished due to quite a few retirement from broken masts over the Hayling Bar, sending quite a few boats home early.

Yeah so not the buzz then

Okay any other ideas similar to the Buzz but not at radical as the 29er? The ISO is in the same league as the 4000 so i assume its to demanding for light crews. I dont like the 3000 so thats not on the list either.

Am i actually left with any other boats?

I wouldn't say the 4000 is too demanding for light crews !

even for 18 stone young crews? I like the idea of the racks so lighter crews can sail. Any other opinions on the 4000 for an 18 stone teenage crew?

500 is great for the light weight sailor. But I've sailed the Buzz a fair amount, and found it very enjoyable. Possibly those who had problems making it go to windward should look to their sailing techniques?

PchSC bought a Buzz for the juniors, and I thought it looked pretty good. They aren't expensive either. The 500 would be super, but you will have to pay a lot more as they are new and not really likely to come up 2nd hand. As I said before, there's loads of stuff on the site about them, and I think I found links to an old test too. Oh and by the way, their nationals were at HISC, and they seemed a friendly bunch!

Otherwise if you can do without the trapeze, look at a 200: very popular class, wide variety of prices available, and if you pay the right money, you should be able to sell it easily if you don't get on with it.

If 4000s are allowed to sail where your based, so should the 29er as its slower on PY. The Buzz is a good boat, slightly more powerful than the 3000 and a bit more roomier. Every time I've sailed one I've enjoyed it. From the looks of it, your options are the RS200, 3000, Buzz and RS500 if the 29er has been ruled out. Best way to decide between the boats is to go and sail each one and choose the one which suits you better. Everyone has their preferances and until you sail the boats, making a decision about buying a boat would pretty blind.
