There was a comprehensive review in Y&Y a few weeks ago. If you're a subscriber, you can access the online article in a .pdf format. They look and sound great, better than the RS Tera (although it's a little beauty too).

Have to disagree there about the PICO - to much buoyancy, no feel, awful sail shape. The one thing you need for a beginner is to be able to feel what you are doing and when you capsize for it to be easy to get back into. i.e with the dagger-board not to high. The Pico fails on these two counts spectacularly! But is undeniably indestructible, the only reason I'm sure, sailing schools use them.

The boat you need to look at is a SPLASH.

A fantastic combination of hull, sails and mast. Huge in Europe ( 200 odd at events )  and 60 odd at the UK Nationals. Your daughter will be able to feel what she is doing, de-power when she needs to and when she capsizes she'll be able to get back in it. And she won't out grow it off it for a very long time. You can upgrade the boat with a bigger sail and longer boom - Then it is called a FLASH and sail competitively over 18.

Basically the SPLASH is like a Europe without the hassle of a ultra low boom. And your son will love it in a breeze, in-fact you'll need two because he'll love it in all conditions so much.

This boat was designed for people who have outgrow the Oppie and are not big enough for Lasers e.t.c So in short your two children.

My wife has one, she is 7 stone and 5". We bought it for her to get back into sailing and then to hand down to our son who is 9 and currently 3.5 stone who sails a Oppie. He sails it when it is light. We paid £1200 for ours, and it was in very good condition. They are FANTASTIC! And I would say that about many boats.

here are a couple pics from the worlds...

SPLASH sailor, I guess about the same size as your daughter?...

and on the Blackwater...

I can't believe your recycling posts, that poor 14 year old is crapping himself that he has a daughter he doesn't know about....
I might be sailing it, but it's still sh**e!

That's exactly my point on the other thread, Jack Sparrow! A touch of editing to the post wouldn't have taken long  Mind you, she's a pretty girl, maybe an added bonus to join the Splash fleet...

Oh I see.. sorry. I sort of couldn't be arsed to edit it all and say the same thing, I'll try harder next time.

I thought for a bit you were on at me for handing down boats of something?

As for girl SPLASH fleet sailors.... easy now, you'er on dangerous ground there.
