I'm a 12/13 stone 39 year old and after a 25 year break from sailing and
a recent session in a Feva which I really enjoyed, would I be mad to buy
one of these(probably an XL) rather than the more obvious choice of an
old Laser for what I want which is a safe, easy, stable bit of fun from the
beach??
Thanks for your thoughts!

I think you just answered your own question. But i feel the feva wouldnt be a good choice because : a) i think after strenuous testing they are crap
                         b) Lasers are much more competitive
                         c) a laser is not plastic
Happy sailing

If you don't want to race then the feva sounds like the one for you. I have had two of my best sails this year in plastic boats, I think that may be they get a bit too much stick on this forum. I'm of a similar size to you and the feva is great in a blow s/h and it can be dragged up the beach, Lasers are fine if you race but crap to yacht about in.(IMHO)

I'd go for the Laser, reckon after a few sails the Feva would feel too easy. The Laser isn't too difficult a boat to sail for fun.

definitely the laser if you want to race, but the feva is quite a good boat for blasting, and would be tougher (beaches/slipways etc). lasers can easily be found second hand, but you might have porblems in this respect for the feva. feva has a kite though...

But a full rig laser will still be quicker off the wind on say a reach than a feva
