I reckon holding out for a taser and waiting for some to appear second hand would be worth its while. Not once have i ever heard anything other than good things said about it.

Has to be a Tasar - they can be found ! Simply stunning in the right conditions, highly refined and you will find yourself asking questions like why exactly iare boats like the 200 is so relatively slow ....especially when many have got a third sail etc ?! ..... The Tasar is a great boat and fully international albeit it is a bit sticky in very light stuff.

We had an RS200 for a few years and now own a National 12. I much prefer the 12 as it is very refined, light weight and very user friendly as the rig is easy to adjust to conditions. If you have a nervous crew then the lack of a kite is a big benefit but the boat is still very rewarding to sail. What location do you do most of your sailing at? Sorry to go on a tangent but 23st isn't the bottom of the weight range for the 400. My dad and I never weighed more than about 23 and a half stone and we were quite heavy compared to alot of people. We were only at about 20 maybe 21st when we first got the boat. The only reason we got heavier is because i went from being a tiny little 12 year old up to being 16 and having built up alot of strength. We were also at our most competative in a blow but that may have been to the ammount of windy weather sailing(infact just the sheer amound of sailing full stop)we did.

Surely it's worth holding out for the right boat rather than making a snap decision based on what's for sale at a particular minute of a particular hour of a particular... well you get my drift! I'd echo all the pro-Tasar comments especially if 'er indoors (or should that be 'er in the front) isn't particularly spinnaker-friendly (as long as 'im at the back can cope with the idea of no spinnaker that is.) I believe there are several Tasars for sale on the uk class website. I considered a Tasar but have gone with a 3000 due to there already being several at the club. Tasars do look good with their new sails as do the 3000's Andrew |

It's not just weight, but strength as well, she's a 5'2" lady, so although combined we weigh in enough, most of that is in the back end! I do want a spinnaker, and the other half was getting to grips with it really well, but if I can get something to reduce sheet loads and save on the swimming then that has to be a good thing! I think I am going to go with the 200, there is a healthy fleet at Axbridge (my club) and although the 12's are there as well, I feel that the 200 would be better for us. In addition it has such a good open circuit, with 115 boats lining up for the inlands, got to like that! As for time scale, I have my orders, and it's do it fast. Might be 5'2", but still the boss! |
