the 200's banned the use of the wisker pole for goose winging at class events because it spoilt the tactical racing as it became a prosession. If i remember correctly there was nothing to stop u doing it pole less but that took alot of effort and was just plane difficult.

Im going to have to see some formal documentation before i believe that you're not allowed to gooseswing sails on any boat.  If they disallow the introduction of specialised poles for gooseswinging then that i'm willing to believe.  But the actual action of goose swinging a sail is by pure choice of the sailor!  You can set your sails how ever you damn well please!  You dont see race officials telling a laser sailor he isnt allowed to sail by the lee.
Rediculous, i need proof!

It's rather a sign of a flawed design for a racing boat that they have to introduce rules to prevent you using the equipment provided to best advantage to sail round the course. It also directly contradicts the requirement to sail your "Proper course"!

People would think it rather bizarre if you weren't allowed to let the mainsail out to go downwind on the grounds that it made the boat go faster and make the racing less tactical .... I can't see any difference between that and the Feva rule of not goosewinging the kite!

i dont think they even let you goose wing the jib on the feva. i havent read the updated class rules yet but thats how i understood it from the breifing at warsash.

So how are they going to ban heading dead down wind with the boat heeled to 'winward' and the spinny 'rolled out' round the front of the jib.  I can't believe they seem suprised that the quickest way down wind in a heavy non-skiff boat is straight at the mark regardless of the type of kite it has!
I might be sailing it, but it's still sh**e!

I think it is written inot the 200 class rules as well- you can't goosewing the kite. you can goosewing the jib though, with the kite in the bag  (which of these two is outlawed in Feva's?)

Regards to Pierre's comment on using kit to best advantage: you could say the same about rule 42 breaches. Pumping/ooching/sculling/rocking/pumping are all using the kit provided to make the boat go faster. Rules are drawn somewhere, though this one seems a little odd!

Wierd *! ?  How can you ban it?  (Not a criticism of you Mike), just a bizarre thing to do.  It's not as though you're adding any go faster bits, just using the equipment to best advantage.

i dont know, they just put it in as an amendment to the sailing instructions, as a new class rule. the first i knew about it was at the warsash open a couple of weekends ago, which was blown off
